Stalker
I hear a signal from another place.
It takes the form of a love song
Playing on my radio, a tune wrestling
With the wind to catch my ear!
At first, for years, I moonlighted with the
Idea that everyone has from time to time—
Of a prince in shining armor, a man of
Perfect understanding,
Of fate or true love driving in on a sailboat
To my rescue. We would dance at night,
Sail at dawn, and make love before the
Setting of the sun.
After the meeting, I no longer moonlight.
The reality of a true signal from another
Place, is grounds for disturbance,
Love turned to stalking!
I am married and imagine my husband
The culprit; that would be so timely. I
Love him so, but does he also play the bells
Of a long-lost lover?
I may follow his advice and turn off
The radio or follow my own advice rather
Than garbage in and garbage out (GIGO),
Listening to the melody and hearing the words.
Touched but not changed and influenced,
Challenged not redefined, no longer would
The harlot contain me with the whispers
Of a song in flight.
