The American Flag Blows Here, Respected

The American flag blows here,
​Respected.
It blows elsewhere
A dimension apart from here
Where people actually understand
American politics
​A lot more,
There, they are unified to do something right
When they are not at war about facts
Lining up on different sides of ideals
That the world is split about over there,
That place that is parallel to here,
But altogether somewhere else,
But here, the American flag just blows
And we are cognitively dissonant
About all that goes on politically
And we bark at each other
About opinions
Made by media hawks
Who tickle us with emotional memes
To be aggravated
About the nothingness that we know
About American politics
But think that we know,
For the outcome is not just ours,
We are entangled with another place
Where people actually understand.
But in part, we mind our business
And we care about the freedom
We are told we have
And football games, Girl Scout cookies
Grocery shopping, Thanksgiving get-togethers
All of which are American
Outside of the political
And so, the American flag blows here,
Respected,
Even though we don’t know
What we don’t know
About America.
