Starting Over
Quiet settled over the water
I found my first four leaf clover
Threw a lucky penny into the fountain
The rock skipped a beat
The ripple started from the outside
And lapped up the tadpole
I swam ashore
There you were
Shades and all
Your arms wouldn’t open
Because they were burnt like mine
Our eyes barely met
But our hearts pounded
I swam ashore
The ripple started then
And lapped up the in-between
My arms and yours
‘Til we latched
We made love less like strangers
That night
But anew with a fever
For one another
The blues left my mind
Entered yours
And swept away under the sun
When the night landed
We started over
No handcuffs
No silence
No aloneness
Cracked open like an egg
All over each other
With margarita souls
Bent over
In love
Starting over.
