Small and Wise Like the Little Mouse
She slept under the shade tree
And ate the curds at the bottom of the cheese barrel
Praying to the praying mantis god
For song in her life
To keep her of mild temper
And cheer her up on a bad day
Her shyness was towards the man above
And the great big oak tree
The squirrel at her nut
Offering her the leaf from the bonsai plant
So she would become very wise
Telling stories of the shadows of life
And the sacred greenery
All around
A small one she was
With great wonder the world hurled at her
A circumstance so great to her
That her offering went out with her heart
And into her gut
Making her feel a little sick
Healing kept her awake
To the soft part of her neighborhood
The preying mantis always
A friend
Her few that knew her well
And the many who knew her name
She was embedded
In the nail that hit the cross through his hand
She raised her head up
Saw the clouds overhead
And no angel dismissed her.
And ate the curds at the bottom of the cheese barrel
Praying to the praying mantis god
