NIght LIghts & Daytime Shadows

Shadows are like reflections
Of a mountain’s edge
Or a sand dune’s edge
Or a light pole on a busy street.

The light blocker
Has its own shape
A topsy-turvy reflection of itself
Converts into darkness.

The gay bystander
And the solemn one pass by
And darkness follows
Wherever the sun shines on them.

The sun whispers
And the darkness responds
The day spends its fuel
And the night putters after.

Within myself there is a shadow
A dark reflection
I am reminded I am human
An anomaly, a wonder.

A chunk of light in my soul
In my heart
Breathes fire
And reflects night.

Come-again darkness
Reflections of be-ing
And mysterious shadows
Follow us through time.

The night lights sing to me
Stars, moon, cities lit
And the daytime shadows call to me
Across every shape on a sunny day.
