Flicker
Most of my memories
Flicker
But the flame goes out
Resurfacing when inconvenient
Or when I lust after something similar
Then I do touch those memories again,
The dark ones
Stay silent but are ever-present in my mind
Like intrusive thoughts
Never fading
Wandering into the forefront of my brain
Hello dear
Go away
Re-direct and latch onto something else,
But there are some good ones I try to hold onto dear
Of the best times
That I love to remember
So I keep on remembering them
So I don’t forget
Flicker
The flame seems to never go out,
My life
I live
Is a mixture of tough times
And a multitude of blessings,
My mind knows that
It knows many things,
To be in the flesh
Is to know
And remember,
And the sun comes up everyday
Putting to rest the darkness
And my mind hallucinates
In the dark
And remembers what is not real
I welcome what is real
And say hello to the day
And worship the sun
And sink my feet into the grass,
I am reminded that people are great
Most people
And diverse they are
And interesting,
I remember my rebellion from youth
And my grownup rebellion
And my calling to revolution
And a love for conspiracy theories
And a love for normal,
I remember my wedding day
And even more my hospital stays
And more right now
The present,
The sound of the future is right around the bend
And a solid nights sleep
In a cozy bed,
New dreams and anticipation of big things
New Year’s 2019
Resolutions
And the flicker of memories of 2018
A new job
A super party for the big 4-0
Where friends and family traveled from afar to attend
Charleston, South Carolina with my best friend
Catching the waves of the Atlantic
New counselor
Recovery,
I welcome what is real
And say hello to the day
And worship the sun
And sink my feet into the grass
And I remember
That life is a blessing
