Because She is Interesting

There’s nothing unusual
About her daily coffee
Except that it’s decaf
Caffeine makes her heart pound

She talks to the strangers in her head
About extraordinary things
None of it's extraordinary
To her anymore

An achiever, a full resume, projects
All fit in between cigarettes
And breaks between the covers
She lies in the fetal position

At dark, she gets a little fearful
Being alone even more so
And it will never go away
Her scars run deeper at times

Pen to paper for a love of writing
This and that
Poems, articles, essays, books
The computer is her canvas

Her vulnerable persona
Gives her an edge-up
She gives first of herself
To all her friends

She lives in a Safe-haven
Safe from the sharp thorns of life
But she is a person of interest
They're looking for her right now

She’s an interesting girl
Smart, outside-the-box, experienced
Organized, not cluttered
Strong-hearted

And she blasts the truth
From time to time
It scares us
Where did it come from?

From those strangers,
And then her little fingers typed
A letter sent
Where the birds would take it

Strangers in her head
Tinker tinker with her mind
It's no wonder she has scars
Strangers - be gentle!

For her
Because she is interesting
Because she loves
Because she overcomes

She is worth some peace of mind.
