Americana

Americana
Is down home living
Men leading families
People attending church
But in a fewer places

Meringue pies, black eyed peas
Staples from the South

Big cities with class
Americana
Because the best music, food, and hot spots
Live there

The snow capped mountains
The smokey blue mountains
Awesome mountains
Everywhere in Americana

West coast skaters
Best of show tattoo artists
Catching waves, tasting wine
Hollywood!
Las Vegas strip!
Ladies to their 9s, Men well-groomed, tan

Americana
Means traffic in some places
Coffee on the run
Balancing acts

Americana
Means well wishes from the wishers in every town
But also, watered down education

Americana
Means shooting up drugs
And killing babies
And whack politics
Bad relationship choices
But also, an internet of things
For curious minds and the intelligentsia
All the beautiful ladies in America

Americana
Means American flags — burned or holy
Support the troops
With no media coverage of the wars
Polite exchanges even on a bad day
But, the headbands we wear with a stain of ignorance

Americana
Thousands of home towns
With holy spaces and dirty places
And love and hate thriving on the streets
"We all commonly have a view of the sky."
